From cityscapes to rolling mountains, I can’t wait to get out there and explore. With that in mind you’ll find my top five contains places of both natural and man-made beauty.
I have always been fascinated by different cultures, especially ones that vary greatly from the ones I was brought up with. The historic ruins of Machu Picchu are normally one of the first destinations put on backpackers bucket list – and for good reason. Built around 1450, the Incas built the estate a century prior to the Spanish conquest and abandoned it soon after. One quick google search will provide you with an array of thought provoking, mist-filled images of the peaks. The opportunity of taking my own equally breathtaking images is unbelievably inviting! I cannot wait to visit this place, so Peru has become a must-visit destination for me and Scott.
There are very few places that can rival Milford Sound when it comes to finding the perfect place for canoeing and kayaking. Lined by sheer rock faces, this part of the New Zealand Fiordland captures my imagination every time I read about it. With a couple of permanent waterfalls, the place comes alive after rainfall when hundreds of mini waterfalls cascade over the cliff edges. I would love to spend a at least a few days just taking in the views here, followed by a bit of fishing and canoeing around the coves – can you think of anywhere better to do that?
Okay okay, so I like visiting ruins. There is something about these places that I am fascinated by and Angkor Wat is simply enchanting. The vine ridden temple offers incredible views at both sunrise and sunset, I cannot wait to set up my camera and hopefully get some great shots of this otherworldly temple. Throw in some cheap Cambodian beer and a couple of street-cooked noodle dishes, it’s safe to say the buds are sold on this one. A cultural pearl that is surely a must visit for anyone who gets the chance.
If I am in Times Square, then it means I am in New York and that is one place that has always been on my bucket list. A little different to the other selections on my list, but it is without a doubt just as enticing even if it’s a little more man-made. I love most things digital, from work to hobbies – I am at home with gadgets and screens. Where better to get my LED fix than in the centre of high street advertisement and sensory overload! Pair it with a burrito from one of the many gourmet taco-vans and I will be well on my way to bud nirvana – throw in a pint of local brewed craft beer and I would have well and truly arrived.
Back to good old mother nature with this one, even if the legends claim otherwise! These photogenic falls lie on the border of Argentina and Brazil and produce some of the largest cascades of water you’ll find anywhere on the planet. While I don’t suggest you get your kayak out for this one, there is a whole bunch of trails around the falls that cater for everyone; from your scenic stroller to the more vertically adventurous, you’ll be sure to find a matching trail. I just want to grab a steak, a glass of red and enjoy the sights and sounds of the full-moon light lit water plummeting to the pools below – who’s in?!
These are my current top 5 places I cannot wait to visit, but I feel like I have left out so many others! So, I will revisit this at some point before we leave and share some of my other most anticipated places. Until then hit us up with your suggestions, sell it well and I may just have to add it to my list.
